The main reason I LOVE GSM!
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

At least the person who wrote the article isn't bitter

Of course it begs the question that if Europe only uses GSM because of some supposed law and CDMA is far superior why are there carriers in the US who use GSM?

sounds like it was a last ditch effort to try and compete against cdma
Sprint Kyocera 6035> Verizonized Sprint 6035> Treo 300> Sprint Treo 600> Sprint Treo 650> Cingular 8125> Sprint Treo 650> Sprint Treo 700wx

From what I've read about EV-DO, it seems like the revisions to the system are already in the works and that they should go smooth and quickly over the next few years, giving very fast speeds for data. However, I have not heard the same for GSM networks. This doesn't mean much. It merely means I haven't seen any such data. It might be interesting, however, to see which gets faster networks...well...faster. I don't think GSM is anywhere close to dying out. I think if it does die out it will be quite a long time before that happens. The majority of cell phone users still use their phone for just talking, and therefore care nothing about the fast data connections. While things are changing, they are changing very slow. Think about how many people still use dial-up. Though it seems like everyone these days uses broadband, a large number still use dial-up. It's mostly gonna be about coverage until the fast data becomes more mainstream.

I think that was a good analogy. Yeah. Hmm.

    And now:

The idea of regularly using EVDO or HSDPA for anything significant is not something I think about too often. Let's see should I download that stuff at 1 Mbps (EVDO), 2 Mbps (HSDPA3.6) or 28.9 Mbps on the desktop ? Do I wanna type on a full size KB and screen or a 2" screen and KB ? Granted when in a pinch, the mobile access is handy but if I gonna be in my office or anyone's office at any point in the day, I gonna use a desktop for all but very short, emergency communications where speed isn't all that relevant.

My main problem when out of the offcie I am usually driving which doesn't leave me in a position to use data. The exeption being when I do a ferry trip, I can d/l e-mails on the way to the boat and answer them or web browse on board. Other than that my time is going to be more efficiently spent on a desktop. An airport is another place where mobile access comes in handy ... on a train, I prefer to use a laptop to get work done, then do my web access more efficiently at da office.

The exception of course is peeps who wanna use the Treo as an entertainment device for streaming music or video. I don't have time for that stuff but see how this would appeal to many peeps.
