is there a way to set a ringtone for text messages?

and how do i go about doing this, i took an mp3 file and draged it to the ringtones folder but when i hit play nothing happens and i can't "add as ringtone"

You can't change the text sound anyway. What a let down.

yes you can you go to preferences in the message app select ringtone for alert under show notification

and if you apply the sms per contact patch you can set a different ringtone/message tone for each contact.
