If you have a Google Apps account, you can sync contacts directly since it acts similar to an exchange server. However, I have an google apps account and I had some pretty bad results syncing it with Outlook 2007.

I say this a lot on these forums, but if you're not locked into Outlook, you might try Mozilla Thunderbird. There are a few quirky things about it, but for the most part it works as well as Outlook, if not better in some ways. It can also sync contacts and multiple calendars with some free add-ons from the Mozilla website. I use T-bird now and I doubt I will ever go back to Outlook.

+1 for Google Sync. It just works, plain and simple.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Google Sync only does calendar events. The OP wanted to know about Google contacts.
