I am unable to enter an IP address as my email server while configuring my Pre for POP email. The "Sign In" tab does not seem to be accessible unless I have a .com in the address. No help from Palm or Sprint, they claim an IP address cannot be used . Help

Had the same problem. I found that my assigned IP also had a hostname associated with it from my provider. If you are accessing though a provider of some kind a ping to the IP or an nslookup of the IP may return a fully qualified name for the IP.

It is a corporate IP for work, my IT guys claim that the IP address is the only way to pop. NSlookup came up with an address that didn't work.......
