If they do, I suspect the company, like HP or Canon will create an application and charge money for it. OR some developer with a lot of resources will develop it. If it happens, I would think it will happen when and IF the Pre becomes a hit with Verizon next year. Of course, this is all just speculation, but if I'm not mistaken, there are "generic" drivers that work on some printers, so it might actually be possible for developers that are lacking the resources that well-funded developers have to develop a sophisticated and all-inclusive program. One way to know if its ever been done on these new generation OS systems is to check if the iPhone has it either in their app store or available as a jailbreak method. Sounds like an awesome idea though, wish I had the time to learn this stuff.
