Macaw 2018 is a fork of the well-known Twitter client for webOS, Project Macaw.

One current problem with Project Macaw is that new account login is broken. Macaw 2018 fixes this - you can login to your Twitter accounts again.

    Plans for future changes/enhancements:

    1. Fix direct messaging.
    2. Display images from Instagram posts.

Source code can be found here at github - https://github.com/GeorgeMari/phnx

The app itself can be found in my Preware feed: http://www.georgemari.com/preware/

Current version: 1.8.1 - Fixes direct messaging

Thank you for keeping this alive!

You should definitely create pull requests back to Project Macaw! They'll definitely get merged in!

EDIT: Although I see that Micah hasn't done a lot with Project Macaw recently.

    Did you know:

webOS ran on a Treo 800 during initial development.

The fix for login required no code change - just white-listing the callback url used during OAuth with Twitter. That's why I needed to create a new app.

There are also some fixes for Instagram included, but they're incomplete. Once finished I plan on creating a pull request.

Oh cool! I'll ping Micah to whitelist the callback URL so that existing installs won't have problems re-logging in...

That would be great - thanks. I tried to e-mail him but no reply.

Version 1.8.1 is now available in the Preware feed listed in the first post.

Fixes direct messaging, including notifications. (Can't post photos in direct messages)

It doesn't work, preware gives an error trying to update :
    curl: (35) error:1407742E:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert protocol version

I un-installed Macaw 2018 on a spare Veer, then re-installed. I got no Preware error.

From the error message, you may have entered the URL for the Preware feed with an https instead of http. Try removing and re-adding the feed.

They may be seeing the version of Macaw in the old feed. It keeps tripping me up.

well, i just realized that what I see is on the pivotce feed... seems the app has been loaded there , too ? and is messing up

To be more precise, appears to be a macaw@minego.net upgrade to 1.8.1 and distributed from pivotce ( I still have the older installed, and it shows this as available for upgrade )

I think the 2018 modifications were merged into the Minego version and that was updated. And it sounds like one of the servers hosting that has updated to only accept TLS 1.2. I uhhh.... need to finish an OpenSSL update I was working on. (Got it compiling, but hadn't made the data structure re-org and the porting of Palm patches yet.)

twitter.com now only accepts TLS 1.2, so Macaw is useless now until OpenSSL updater is done.

Yes, Macaw stopped connecting for me at the weekend.

It looks like Twitter is cutting off legacy apps:

"Twitter has requested that BlackBerry remove the BBOS and BB10 Twitter apps from BlackBerry World as they are shutting down services that enable these apps to function. Users will no longer be able to download the BBOS and BB10 Twitter apps. For those that wish to continue using the social media platform, they can download alternative apps outside of BBOS or BB10 or use their device’s web browser to access the site."

If it's a TLS problem, then it's potentially fix-able. If Twitter is exiling old apps, then probably not. Given the controversy when Twitter tried cutting off 3rd party apps before, I'm a bit surprised it would be this, but it could be that some API are changing & apps that won't be updated are being dropped.

So which is it? Anyone got links to definitively answer the question?

It all seems a little confusing. Twitter only mentions one change: the requirement for TLS 1.2. Source: https://twittercommunity.com/t/remov...twitter/126648

However, BlackBerry 10 supports TLS 1.2 and it was still subject to a removal request from Twitter (according to BlackBerry's press release). That would seem unwarranted, unless other changes are afoot.
