Did I see a thread saying that connection is iffy for GTalk?

Actually, I'm getting "Bad request" when I try to sign in to Google in Messaging. I have 2-step authentication, but I'm using an app-specific password. What am I missing?

Yeah, I have the openSSL from the Preware alpha feed. I have my Gmail account working as an IMAP account thanks to it.

I'm using the C+Dav synergy connector for syncing contacts and calendars with Google.

I did a little more reading, and realized I never applied the OAuth2 patch. So that's necessary for GChat, huh?

Since I've got everything but GChat working right now, I'm not going to mess with it.

And so GChat is the last one that works for messaging?

The OAuth patch is necessary to add the Google synergy account, which will (should) enable gtalk, and email. It also tries to enable contacts and calendar, which won't work unless you have the new ubercalendar patch with the new APIs.

I don't think I knew about the API thing. But yes oauth for all the google things.

Sorry, haven't had time to create the patch yet. The patch itself is simple enough, but work and some other projects are taking up too much time. I expect be able to work on it his Thursday or Friday though...

I didn't know it was even fixable, so that's good. I figured they had changed the api in a way that breaks the webOS map app.

More on the Palm Maps App (Bing Maps) patch - including some technical details and the patch itself - can be found here: http://forums.webosnation.com/webos-...api-patch.html.

NewsG was a great Google News app. It died when Google discontinued the API on which it was based. I've been looking for a free drop-in API replacement, but no luck so far. Perhaps someone else knows of a fix?

Added to the list. I notice from the developer's page that there is a version in QtQuick for Meego Harmattan. As it is of similar age, I assume it doesn't work either, but guess the same fix could apply to both. Would a 'QtQuick' app work for LuneOS?

There seems to be a current API... https://newsapi.org/s/google-news-api

    I'll try emailing the developer.

I saw that API. It is free up to 1000 API calls per day. I'm not sure how many calls the app would make in an average session, but that might be fine. It also might tell us how much use the app was getting, if it hit the daily limit.

Oddly, page 10 of this thread is inaccessible.

I'm posting a link to my modified version of Preddit in the Preddit thread. I've also added a link to my post on page 9 of this thread.

The developer of NewsG has replied. I asked if he was interested in updating them and if the Qt version could be ported to LuneOS.
I've stopped working on both apps, mainly because I'm not using the (beloved) devices any more. So unfortunately I'm not interested in fixing the apps.

The Qt/QML app is with an option for using RSS feeds instead of the (deprecated) API, but I don't know if it's still working. Porting NewsG to LuneOS will be difficult, since Nokia-Harmattan QML library is used for the UI-Components.

But nonetheless you can fork the repos and try for yourself, both apps are Free Software!
So the option for someone on this forum to do something with the code is there. There seems to be a current API and the intriguing option in the Qt app to use RSS feeds. Of course Feedspider exists as an RSS reader. I assume the difference in approaches comes down to the availability of RSS feeds from your chosen news sources.
