Are you restoring your e-mail with Sprite? I also did a hard reset after uninstalling MS3, and had the same problem you're reporting regarding e-mail. When I tried to setup my account again, it told me the name was already used and to name the account something else. I assumed it was because I restored all of my accounts using Sprite, only to find that they were not set up on the phone. I just figured the restore had added the account within the DB, but not within the UI.
I've only done the one restore, so it wasn't a big deal for me.
