You could try a stripped ROM. They cause the device to be faster (and may help solve some issues). (Insert standard disclaimers here.)

I have a Treo 700w. I have hands free in my Toyota Camry. It used to work fine but now I can only call out using the hands free. When I receive a call, I have to grab the headset to hear the call. Has anyone else experienced this? I updated to the latest software version and it still doesn't work right.

I just purchased a 700WX and I'm having the same problem. When I had a 650, I didn't have any issues with my bluetooth staying connected. I purchased a Jabra BT 125 for my son who still has a 650 and it works perfectly on his but drops out on my phone.
