I was having the same problem. Everybody was recommending to install "obsolete virtual keyboard", then to leave installed and try to install the "new" virtual keyboard. But at the end I was having the same IPKG Log error.
The only way that I found to fix the problem was using "Emergency Patch Recovery", you can install it using Preware, the only issue is that you will loose all the patches installed in your Pre. Well, I guess it was a good opportunity to remove some stuff that I was not using anymore and to install new patches.
Again, it was my last resource and it did work for me. Let me know if it works for you.
