Well, I should have known what I'd get with a title like this, but thanks for the love and ...err, helpful suggestions!

I did notice in the newly added Alert/Notification/Messages selector in the Sounds & Ringtones app that by default "Messages" was set to "Pick an [sic] message," and when I edit a contact that there is a "MSGTONE" option set by default to "Set a message tone." That led me to believe initially that this may be what's going on, but I didn't chose anything yet because my only options are pre-loaded Pre ringtones which do not include the default notification.wav (yes, I know I can test with any one of them, but I just haven't yet; I also think I have the notification.wav that I can manually load in my ringtones folder as an option, which I plan to do).
Anyway, that said, let me ask a different but related question: Can someone list the difference between an Alert, Notification, and Messages(tone)/MSGTONE? I keep getting confused with this terminology since I receive popup "Notifications" of emails (could be referred to as "messages"), texts/SMS, calendar appointments (alarms?), and low battery (alerts?).
Thanks for any insight into the new Pre terminology.

I actually do NOT have any themes loaded.

I haven't looked closely at this utility, but I'll give it a look after I test some individual SMS tones and load the notification.wav into my ringtones folder. Thanks!
