I was told by a Sprint chat rep, phone rep and advanced tech support that I HAD to reset/wipe the Pre to change the number which I refused to accept.

I decided for the hell of it, before agreeing to wipe it and start over, to try "Update Network Settings" in the Phone App and Preferences. Sure enough, it worked! My # changed from my old Sprint # to my new ported # and calls worked!!

So if you port don't listen to their crap, just power cycle the phone once the port is done and then go into Phone -> Preferences and "Update Network Settings".

The Sprint people were amazed and took the info down so they could use it themselves for next time. I guess that's what happens with brand new phones.
