You honestly think that Palm (this is not Sprint's call, by the way) is intentionally fabricating this shortage?
Also, it's been widely announced that Telesales and online will not sell the Pre at launch.

I'm not arguing that Sprint leases the local network wherever you may be, but each store, "owned" by Sprint or not is bound by franchise agreements with Sprint and, therefore, have to follow such agreements to the letter, otherwise, heavy assessments (fines) are imposed.
