Honestly, anyone who doesn't believe Palm had a catastrophic failure after pretty much the Handspring acquisition (maybe give them the benefit of the doubt and say a few years later) is fooling themselves. Hopefully the new engineers won't be as content to sit on their laurels after (if) the Pre is a success, like they did after the Treo 600 was acquired from Handspring and perfected with the 650 (don't get me wrong, I know the 650 wasn't entirely perfect, I mean Palm added the features with the 650 that the 600 should've had in the first place, namely Bluetooth and 320x320.)

Umm, the article being cited was on Time's web site. Last time I checked, time.com was located on that vast series of tubes known as the internet.
Not sure if you were dissing Time's content delivery channel (a combination of print and web) or their actual content itself. If it's the latter, remember that the internet itself is of little use if there are no providers dishing up content for us to read!

I firmly believe Palm has a gem on their hand with WebOS.
I hate to say it but until the Pre launches and they gain success the Time article makes a valid point objectively. The Pre can turn it around, but they aren't there yet. If nothing else this should be good "bulletin board material" at Palm to help motivate the hell out of them to make this work.

Business objectives are achieved (either directly or as part of a broader strategy) with "news" articles like this...and quid pro quo occurs. What will that be? Who knows, but hey, don't be surprised if you see an exclusive interview with Steve Jobs talking about his health issues in this magazine in a month or two.
Maintain a reasonable level of suspicion at all times...and remember to question authority. Even paranoids have enemies. ;)

I work for ESPN and our magazine is suffering badly. I'm honestly surprised we haven't just closed it up yet.
Or the fact New York Times is struggling pretty hard right now as well. THE new york times.

In my admittedly non expert opinion 1/2 to 1/3 of the publications we have now are not going to survive. I am ok with that. The only justification for their continued existence was the 'higher standards of journalism' they claimed to represent. I think we have all seen by now that this claim is hollow and they are just as fickle, lazy and beholden to their corporate masters as online journalists.

Hopefully the online versions are at least optimized for dial up or slow access, because I understand it isn't totally dead, like people in large urban areas think.[/COLOR]
