More Evidence Sprint's iPhone-Clone Samsung Instinct Isn't A Dud

I like my Instinct a whole lot! I got it last June and have enjoyed it. I am looking forward to getting the Palm Pre when it comes out, though.

I tried an Instinct at a best buy. The whole thing smelled of a desperate act by Sprint. Worst than the Storm.

I would like to know the sales number , how many were sold so far ?
Also how many got returned back

The articles used the word "Best Selling Phone" but never get into specifics.

About 15 plus million iPhone were sold last when I checked in 2008.
The numbers could be more .

But Instinct hmmm, many be a million sold ??? and half of them returned

It's fine to be snarky about the Instinct, but if it was so bad for Sprint, why are they releasing two more models of it this year with the "Instinct" branding intact? That doesn't scream "dud" to me.

The evidence presented in that article is based on actual field data of the number of devices in use. You'll find the term "million" regarding the Instinct there. And that article is now 6 months old. And that's the number that were pulling certain types of data, the number sold would have to be higher.

No, they say nothing of real numbers... it would be like me saying the Treo 800 has sold 6 billion units this year... that is a fact! I know this because I saw x number of treo 800 users in one day... lol... Whatever....

It's fine to be snarky about the Instinct, but if it was so bad for Sprint, why are they releasing two more models of it this year with the "Instinct" branding intact? That doesn't scream "dud" to me.

I would say it was a dud due to how they branded the phone...

iPhone killer... guess it is a silent killer... that is why it is called in the Instink.

But many "average" phones have follows to them... it may not be a real dud (as in failed) but it may be enough to keep around and fill a void in their mobile pc strategy.

Having an Instinct in the family, I can say that it's not a dud, unless you expect it to be a smartphone. As a feature phone, it competes pretty well with the iPhone. As a smartphone, well, it just isn't. But heck, if you're not a corporate user, and aren't into keeping your calendar and tasks on your phone, the Instinct is pretty cool. The web browser is better than Blazer (nothing like mobile Safari, though), and you can get push email on it (but not EAS, I don't believe). So, yeah, it's not truly an iPhone competitor per se, but it does have the slick UI and has a number of features the iPhone doesn't currently, such as Sprint Navigation with turn-by-turn audible instructions and video recording. It also has a killer Live Search function that I would really love to have on my 755p--you hit the button, say what you're searching for, and it finds the closest one to you, with options to call or navigate to it. It is really quite nice.

But they didn't see that many 800w users in a day. They did see high numbers for devices that have already shown to break sales records, the Instinct being one of them.

I had one , promptly returned it.
The issue was browser. It was the crappiest browser I saw on a phone.
They released the updates later , but it was too late.
Any phone with a crappy browser IMO, is a crappy phone.

Rest of the features on the instinct are just fine.
