I think they announced the Pre way too early. Not only does it annoy people to wait so long, but they have given their competitors months to catch up before their product is even released. I would have wanted to keep it a secret right up until the end and then let the media hype take over. You wouldn't even have to advertise.

This. Not positive on the order, but didn't Apple add Spotlight once Palm showed Universal Search? And now there's rumors about Apple working on running background apps.

Don't worry, even if the iPhone OS has background apps it will still be crap + it is stuck on Americas worst wireless network.

We all know that the issue is not the release date but "lack of information" on features and such.
