Well, here's my email exchange with Sprint CS this morning:
Original Question: everything messaging with data pack
Question: I am currently on a shared family plan, with Power Vision on
only 1 of 4 lines. Is it possible to get the Everything Messaging Plan,
and add the $15 Data Pack to only 1 line? The other 3 lines on my
business account do not need data.
A second question: Do you know if the Palm Pre (not Treo Pro), when
released, will require an Everything plan, or would I be able to upgrade
to the Pre and retain my existing plan?
Speaking of the Pre, is there a release date for this phone?
Thank you for contacting Sprint. I understand your concern about plan
change, adding the $15.00 data pack and the Treo? pro by PalmŪ phone.
Currently, the Fair & Flex Family 800/ plan is active on the account.
You can change this plan to the any one of our available Everything
Messaging Plans. Also, the $15.00 Data Pack can be added only any one
line of your account.
You can view our all available plan on our www.sprint.com Website.
Plan change is not required with the "Treo? pro by PalmŪ phone. It can
be activated with any plan(with your existing plan as well). This
handset will be released on February 15, 2009.
Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.

Thank you for the quick response.
To be clear though, I was asking about the Palm PRE phone, (not the
Pro). Can you tell me if the Palm PRE will require an Everything plan,
and when the Palm PRE will be available for purchase?
Thanks again,
Thank you for your reply.
I am sorry for the break down in communication in the previous reply
email.
Currently we are not offering the Palm PRE phone.
Once, it is decided to launch this phone, you will see promotional
campaigns related to the launch date and the features of the handset on
our Web site and other promotional media.
Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.

So it would appear that not ALL CSRs think he Pre is coming out on 2/15, and some think the Pro is coming out on that date.
And (in relation to another thread), it would appear that an Everything plan is not required with all new Smartphones.
