Had an email this morning from Palm to say the Pre is on the way to the UK, tied to the O2 network.

I guess that confirms expectations and squashes any hope of Vodafone (in the UK anyway).

No date was given.

I'm afraid so... but there is a glimmer of hope.. since it is illegal in belgium to have exclusive deals and as a result a simlock free version must be sold, we may be able to get one from there..

Check this thread out. You might get one from Germany, but it's worth noting they have a QWERTZ keyboard layout. (It's easier to type "BRETZEL" that way.)

I think according to O2 Germany should be at the same time, they'll be selling unsubsidized ones.

Got my Treo 600 in 2003 branded by Orange first, before the unlocked version was available; while the 180 and 680 where first sold by Palm unlocked in France (2001 and 2006)...

Which this time it's different. If you look at the Palm France website they didn't have the "coming soon" page like UK and Germany does.

Still wondering when will it arrive in Asia. Press release wise the AT&T Centro was the earliest in February 2008, but there was no release when the unlocked Centro launched in Hong Kong, it was around the same time.

The french site was updated last week with the announcment of O�, giving a link to be mailed in the future "find out when the Pre will be released".
Before it was the average "Discover Palm Pre"...

Where ther's no hope for the rest of the 4 others countries where Telefonica is present in Western Europe to have a pre before next spring, I'll do with it, and I'm shure the phone will be more mature, being much more developped. Not a bad deal.
But the choice of this spanish group is weird (look @ "Is Western Europe still a valuable market for Palm") as our market is bigger than than the States, and Telefonica's share of it is much more narrower than Sprint's.
Looks like Pre levels of production won't be raised sufficiently, maybe a low treasury concern, dunno.

Unlocked GSM could be a great boost to global sales, IMO. I'd buy one, simply because I travel worldwide and like to use pre-paid local SIMs; when I can.

I hope that Palm comes out with a GSM version soon. Ill pop my AT&T iPhone sim in and bam! Hopefully its unlocked or people find a way to unlock it. I think Palm will release one every year though like Apple right?

There will be unlocked GSM versions available, once it's released in Europe.
