Got my Pre2 on wednesday and havent been able to get preware on it.
i have put it into developer mode
downloaded the correct doctor for novacom files
downloaded woqi
latest version of java(mac)

but the novacom files fail to install correctly and no device can be found.
have followed al the steps and cant seem to make it work.
had it working perfectly on my pre-

use the preware self installer instead of WOSQI:

1. Preparation:
• You will need a PC or Mac that is connected to the internet, and the USB cable that came with your phone.
• Use this link to make sure you have the latest version of Java running on your computer. Update your Java to the latest version if needed.
• Download the Universal Novacom Installer from Canuck Coding to your computer.
• Download the Preware Installer to your computer.

2. Install Novacom Drivers on your computer

Run the Universal Novacom Installer program now to install the drivers needed for your computer to recognize your webOS device.



Choose the “download” option. The installer will download the appropriate Novacom drivers.



After downloading, the correct Novacom drivers will be installed on your computer.




3. Put your phone is Developer Mode
• All versions of webOS can be placed in developer mode by using the keyboard to type “webos20090606” without the quotes. (Note: There are other codes and methods, but this is the shortest and easiest to remember because it’s the date that the first webOS was launched). If you had an iPhone or Droid, you’d be doing something scary like Jailbreaking or Rooting. But, Palm created Dev Mode to make things easy for developers.

• Tap the Dev mode app and turn the switch “on”. If your phone is running webOS version 1.x it will force your phone to reboot. Devices running 2.x and higher will simply hesitate for a few seconds and then continue operating normally. If it asks you about a password, ignore it and just tap the “submit” button. You are now in developer mode and there is no harm in leaving it this way.




4. Install Preware:
• Plug your phone in to a USB port on your computer.
• Choose “just charge” when the phone prompts you.
• Run the Preware Installer program you previously downloaded.

• After installation, you will find the Preware app icon on your device at the bottom of the left-most launcher page.
• Tap the Preware icon. Tap “Yes” when asked about file association.


After loading various feeds, you will see a catalog of apps and patches for you to explore.

when trying to download the novacom drivers it says that installation failed. then i click ok and the box says it installed successfully?

Are you getting that error from the Preware installer or the novacom installer?

Both. the first error saying that installation error from the novacom installer

then a second when i try the preware installer. it says:
Unable to connect to Novacom. Check driver is running.
Error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

*** Things to try ***
*** Disable your firewall and try again.

*** Ensure your Pre is connected and running in DEV mode. (webos20090606)

*** Check Palm Pre is connected in "Just Charge" mode.

*** Ensure the 'Palm Novacom' Service is running.

*** Disconnect your Palm Pre and restart your computer, connect your Palm Pre back to the computer and wait for it to say charging then try again.

Just to dissuade some mis-information I seem to repeatedly see in the forums, including this thread

WOSQI no longer requires a webOSDoctor for anything. Any guide that says it does is outdated. If the WOSQI you have says it needs a webOSDoctor, then it's outdated and you should upgrade asap.

In addition, WOSQI (the current version at least) relies on novacom for device connection. If you can install with the SDK or preware installer, then WOSQI will work. Conversely, is WOSQI is unable to connect to your device, then neither will the other software that uses the same connection.

I invite people experiencing WOSQI connection issues to check out the official WOSQI thread, where, in most cases, people with similar issues have found solutions

I downloaded Preware Installer after isntalling Novacom, and it says "unable to find WebOS doctor.jar. I've tried your solutions you suggested to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I have windows 7 on the desktop and WebOS 2.1 on the Pre2.

If you're referring to WebOS Quick Install, keep in mind "Preware" is one such app you can download/install with it. In fact, WOSQI can install the patches and other packages too.

also, make sure your phone is attached directly to a Usb port on your computer. That was the stumbling block for me for ages.

if u are using QuickInstall - there are tabs for patches and other items. It is usi g the samefeedsas preware so you can install patches from either preware or quickinstall.
