I just got my father an unlocked 650.

His call volume level is very low, even at the highest setting. I have a Cingular branded 650 and m volume is much higher.

Any ideas on what would help?

Could this just be a defective one?

There are a number of threads about this and some of them contain work arounds.

I just installed VolumeCare which seems to improve the listening volume.

there are no work arounds. volumecare will at least keep your volume at 100%. however 100% is very low.

the 1.15 and higher firmware supposedly has a louder volume than the one that ships, however that louder volume is still very low.

and as far as i know that's about it. either use a bluetooth or wired headset if you want more volume. i love my treo soo much, but this is a serious downer for me. oh well i'm not letting my treo go for this. i use the data way more anyway.

There are a number of people who say that Firmware 1.23 fixes this for GSM phones. It worked great for me.
