Hmm, I'm using the modem settings "Verizon Support (PC 5220)" on the Mac side, and my settings are simply the standard ones:

    account name:
    password: nothing
    telephone number: #777

All the settings are really the default ones picked by Tiger.

PPP options: terminal script: (blacked out)
Send PPP echo packets and Use TCP header compression checked.
    IPv4: Using PPP
Bluetooth Modem settings: Enable error correction and compression in modem
Wait for dial tone before dialing.

    Hope this helps.

I changed my modem script to Verizon Support (PC 5220) and turned of PPP Echo Packets, and now I'm getting the same speeds on the Treo and on the Mac with Treo as modem over Bluetooth. That's the good news.

The bad news is that while I was getting 100+ kpbs at 2 a.m. last night, in the middle of the day now I am only getting around 30 kpbs in many of the tests. Occationally one will pop up to about 80, but most are pretty slow. I called Verizon data tech support.

After a long conversation with the rep, and an escallation, they finally came back to tell me that they do not gaurantee the 60-80 kpbs throughput speed because it depends on the signal strength, site being accessed, etc.

My gut feeling is that the network just can't deliver the speed in the middle of the day when everyone else is online. Pretty much sucks!
