Just to keep this post on topic: I found the linked-to "RIM and PalmOne" blog articles in this thread to be pretty "interesting" (before Woof drops another baby calf, let me qualify that "interesting" to mean not necessarily interesting to anyone else, just to me. So it's not "officially" interesting, if you know what I mean.

I wish I had a good suggestion for you. In our environment, we need push e-mail (and the ability to sync phone-based "sent" mail back into the server mailbox; we don't want to send corporate e-mail from personal pop3 accounts on individual's phones), and especially, we need the ability to set/accept appointments and meetings on both the phone and the server (this is the critical flaw we are experiencing with the Treo 650).

The Treo 650 was sufficiently attractive to start our testing with it; even though it does *not* sync contacts or memos/tasks over the air.

That's been my focus all along, and all my evaluation/recommendation, etc., is based on those factors/issues/"features".

I wish I could recommend something; sorry that I cannot.

Tell me more about your environment: Why choose the Treo 650?

Are you trying to use your office mailbox on the phone? (Is that a "must have"?) What are your other "must haves" that brought you to the Treo?

The "must haves" are phone, calender, contacts, task manager, and text messaging. Maybe web. Email really wasn't a consideration. I use PGP encrypted email, I'm not sure it's compatible. I wanted the phone because it appeared to be a compact all-in-one, which I needed to get more organized. I at first wanted a PPC phone, but this was smaller than a PPC(the ones I saw anyway) and still had a full keyboard, another feature I liked.

You DON'T know anything about the topic of this thread, and you have a ridiculous pattern of attacking people who express opinions or report news that you perceive as negative toward your beloved Treo.

Worse, you don't CARE whether the Treo has Exchange Activesync functionality and clearly cannot understand the potential negative implication of another smartphone platform coming out with it to the tune of MILLIONS of units. Possibly less expensive and/or more advanced units (for example, as stated in the original link, Symbian OS plans to over-the-air sync to Contacts and potentially Tasks/Notes AS WELL as Mail and Calendar).

But, gosh, can you "fling the phlegm" (<--NOT literally, mind you)! Woof, you can say whatever you want, but you cannot actually insult me, as I see you very, very clearly.

1. I know plenty about Activesync. It isnt rocket science and it is fairly easy to understand.
2.Youre right I dont care if it works. Big deal. Do you really think everyone who has a treo does? I got news for you, they don't. And if Symbian comes out with a better unit then maybe I'll by one of those if it suits my needs. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Troe 650 is fine for now, as was the 600 before it and the Samsung I330 before that.

on topic.... Palms entrance into Activesync support was nothing special, at least so far. Why expect Symbian's to be any better? I have to agree w/darnell. Palms 2nd go will be better and there is no guarantee Symbian will be success the first time. Only time will tell. In the end though I don't really care. Don't have any use for it. Might as well be wifi.
