Pig headded I am, but glad I am! I bought the iGolf GPS SD when I had my 600. I'm guessing due to the underpowered nature of the 600 SD implementation, the SD card worked spotty at best. I kept playing around, and fiddling, and bugging iGolf and Mapopolis, and hoping...

Well, with the 650, the card works perfectly, and I'm loving life. I tried it out several times yesterday, and in the car I have several satellites in view at all times. It works flawlessly. There is a display fix for Mapopolis on the 650, and you need to be running Version 2 of the software, and then apply the fix over the 2.0 version. Voice prompts, and only one wire - the car charger for the Treo! I live in DC, and the maps for the city, and surrounding burbs all fit in my current memory management. While I wish there was memory on the SD reciever, this is a very workable system.

yea, if you've got bluetooth on the device, go with it... you'll never look back on a normal gps...

You are correct in that large maps must be stored in main memory. I'm taking an extended trip to New England this Christmas, so I'll have more details on usability. However, locally, the maps surrounding metro DC are not too large. So far, I still prefer this over the doubling of wires in a bluetooth setup.

Mapopolis Navigator 2.2 can be downloaded from their site. I think you still need to send an email to support@mapopolis.com to get the Treo 650 patch.

Although I am a duffer, I have not used it for golf. I actually did not buy it for the golf functionality. I just wanted a smaller profile GPS capability for driving and hiking.

The Mapopolis maps I have take up way too much space to be in RAM. It would be very clunky to have to ship them in and out from a card or PC to squeeze the needed one into RAM at any given point, but since they designed this for golf that may not have been a big design consideration. I do wonder about battery consumption. Can you really run this thing off the Treo for the 4 or 5 or even 6 hours a round of golf can take these days?

Where can I easily browse GPS options for the Treo 650? Are there any BT products that I can leave in the car (glove box), but also keep a charge so I can leave it in my golf bag?

I also don't want to shuffle memory and GPS cards back and forth--that sort of inconvience lays the seeds for *needing* to prematurely upgrade to the newer/bigger/better one that comes out next...

I bought the holux 231 BT gps. It's a great gps so far, and I intend to golf with the gps in the golf bag just as you described. Check gpspassion.com for reviews, you may find a gps you like better. I have tomtom software for roadmaps on the treo.

As to golf software, I'm up in the air right now. I can't get a demo of the igolf v2, so that's frustrating. Starcaddy looks impressive, but each course map is another $20! Intelligolf has a brand new version that looks good, but does not have the course detail of a starcaddy.

Trecocentral store has the EMTAC unit. Bluetooth GPS that works with the 650. Also has its own NAV software. I suppose the big benfit here is the ability to store the map data on the SD card , but the drawback is one can only use one Bluetooth device at a time. I agree with the previsous posts on IGolf. Have been testing it the past few days and works like a dream. I never knew there was a patch for the 650 from Mapopolis, but their latest version 2.3 seems to work without it. I live in LA, and have loaded two 4MB MAP files internally (LA-NW and LA-SW).
