Marketing image... not a real phone... still, nice looking. (I preferred when Treonauts had the photos of the real gsm up. You'd think they could bring those back already.)

While I still believe this to be true, has anyone found, heard, received any further confirmation that P1 will release unlocked, unbranded at same time as Cingular release?

We were one of the first to be merged. My coverage was good before, it is excellent now. Some minor issues first two weeks, but ironed out now.

Issues: having to data lock up when crossing orange to blue, only soft reset would solve.

No longer an issue.

Do I lose/gain anything buying T650 direct from PalmOne instead of through Cingular (ie, Enhanced Networking Selection, SIM locking, data speeds, etc.). I searched throughout these threads and, except for the SIM card locking, there seems to be no preference. I can't get a discounted phone through Cingular because I'm 6 months into an existing year's contract, anyway.

BTW, a shout out to everyone on this thread. Working for a product design and development firm, it is great to discover products like the Treo or an iPod that gets folks excited. I also would like to see this thread go to 100 pages.

And Cglaguna, I'm one city north of you, neighbor, in NB. If I'm on Coast Hwy and see somebody driving and talking on their 650, I'll assume it's you.

Well howdy neighbor, I guess there are lots of Treonians in The OC.

As far as I know, and I talked to the P1 people in person, you will not lose any Cing functionality, I am buying from Vienna Channels which is a P1 GSM generic, I have never bought a Cingular Treo from Cingular, always P1 and they are exactly the same.

Well if see a Dark Metallic Red F-150 4X Supercrew and I am holding a Treo to my head, that is me.

I take PCH (and hav to look at that darn ocean) everyday on my way to and from work up Newport Coast Rd.

Speaking of excited I want to but an I-shuffle and I missed the Saturday release, the only store I can get to answer their friggin phone is the Apple store at USC. I want an I-shuffle bad!

With the Treo 600 Locked handsets were $100 more (full retail price w/ plan discount) than locked ones. In other words had I been willing to take an AT&Tws (at the time) locked Treo 600 when I got one, it would have cost me $600, but I chose the unlocked one for $700.
So Cingular's locked should be $550 and PalmOne's locked will most likely be $650. But I admit, I'm not totally sure about this. All I can say is that price may be different between them due to the locked state.

Otherwise there should be no benefit either way except locked/unlocked price (and of course branding.)

And how has Apple brainwashed this country to think that anything that is completely white and has an apple logo on it is worth whatever price they charge for it?

I'm sorry... I just was really confused when this was "revealed" at CES. I need someone to enlighten me as to what is the draw to something like this.

I don't own an Apple product, (except maybe an Apple IIC buried in my basement from 1984) I think its cool for the price. Where can I get 1 gig MP3/flash drive player for $139? I don't care about the controls, I plan on using my 650 for MP3. But at the gym, running and beach I don't care about song control (I want to be surprised). I will add and remove songs weekly, no biggie. I work IT and support I carry a damn flash drive around my neck, why not be a cool one. I don't know, it's cheap!

Treo 650 is awesome! (thread on point for now)

check out the sandisk mp3 player. Same size (aprpox... actually a little shorter), has a screen, 1GB, FM radio, Voice recorder... for $4 more at Amazon.

I would love to get into people's heads and figure out why the IPod craze still has legs and why Reality TV still has a market. To be fair I have a 2nd generation IPod and loved it and I think the 4th generation Ipod is great. But, I am going to get the new Sony HD-W3 which is better for me when I run and workout. My post honestly wasn't a personal attack... I saw them selling out by the bushel as well and I looked at it and really expected to see some type of funcationality that wasn't apparent (bluetooth connectivity, ability to receive FM radio, etc.).

Either way... come Jan 27th the Treo 650 will be my newest toy and I will be defending it's purchase to my PPC buddies.
