Not in the USA. In Europe, Orange offers businesses PTT on GSM using the Treo 600 and Kodiak Networks PTT solution.

Given, that this is part of the phone circuitry (I think) it's hard to say if this is the same between the CDMA and GSM versions. Without knowing how it's designed, it's impossible to say but it might be something that could be fixed in firmware.

Good work Skippy....This sounds more reliable than other stuff I have been hearing. I am starting to think that the ATT/Cingular release is about 2 weeks away. MisterEd I got that same color brochure from Cingular. Very slick, but no Treo 650. However, I wasn't expecting to see it for some reason.

LOL ... "400 hr test period" ... that's a new one.

They've had the phone for months (the Palm Roadshow vendors had AT&T branded 650's for quite a while). As for the "memory fix" I REALLY hope your right but something tells me that Palm (in the last 2-3 weeks since this became a "public issue") certainly DID NOT recall the thousands of boxed GSM phones they have sitting in warehouses somewhere waiting for Sprint's exclusive deal to end, unpackage, reflash (or whatever they do) and rebox them again for resale. I agree they'll be out in early January (that's what it has ALWAYS been reported to be so that ain't news). EVENTUALLY with all the "informed sources" SOMEONE is bound to be right. Please don't take my comments personally, it's just that EVERYONE seems to have an inside source who knows exactly what's going down. EVENTUALLY some one HAS TO get it right just by luck!

I will wait for GSM to come out. I have T-Mobile now but will change to Cingular. I also want the phone unbranded. Is that a possibility? I got my 600 unbranded on Ebay earlier this year.

Just got letter from Jeff, VC,

Product availability has been somewhat constrained and we are shipping customer orders out based on a first-in first our order queue filling sales orders before demo order shipments. We do not yet have enough visibility into deliveries from palmOne, however here is a range of dates we are hoping for. We know you want your device as soon as possible, so thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sprint Treo 650's shipping in first two weeks of January when we expect another product delivery.
GSM unlocked Treo 650's shipping mid-January to mid-February time frame
For those of you purchasing your device, we will not bill your credit card until date of shipment. At that time you will receive notification of the charge to your credit card and we will also provide you with UPS tracking information.

That does sound like a cool option, but more importantly will the acquisition of Nextel provide better service to metro areas? Sprint has a lot of dead spots in Northern NJ/NYC areas, or so I'm told my my friends who have Sprint. That's probably the only reason I don't have a T650 from Sprint right now.

I don't know of any rumors, but I believe it is inevitable that all the carriers will eventually support PTT, whatever technology they use.

As one of those poor schlubs who has to carry around a nextel and a phone, I certainly hope not! There is a reason they make nextels so durable...people keep throwing them against the closest brick wall, under a truck, etc. Darn thing chirps and chatters constantly, and you can't ignore it.

I barely tolerate teenagers in airports with cell phones. Could you imagine sitting next to one on a flight from IAD to Singapore?

While I'd like to have hassle free PDA use of my Treo on an airplane, I'm still willing to carry another device for airplane use just to have some peace and quiet on the airplane. Right now I'm awaiting shipment of my new HP 2750 that I'll carry along with my Treo 650 (whenever the GSM version is released by AT&Tingular)

The cell phones are Okay on airlplanes - it's just that one obnoxiously loud person not paying attention to things going on around them like the other passengers.
