I assume from looking at my Treo 600 that the backlight is actually 4 LEDs on the right side of the screen.

What I was wondering is if there is some minimum light/voltage that they operate at...a threshold if you will.

The reason I ask is that it seems to this layman that there might be something like 8 levels with only 4 being used.

Let me explain: imagine if there were actually 8 steps on the backlight but for some reason Handspring only uses the 5, 6, 7, 8...deciding that 1,2,3,4 were not useful for some reason.

For many of us geeks here it could actually be very cool to have the lower levels available...like on a call or such.

Anyways, I'm mostly thinking out loud...anyone in the know able to set me straight?
