After reading all the relevant threads, I've decided that I'm going to have to make my own car mount. I'd like to start with a holster, but I see that the Treo 300 holster (which won't be available until 10/14 ) clamps the door closed, making it pretty useless for what I want.

But there seem to be some suitable ones out there for the '270. Can anyone out there tell me in what ways the 270 and 300 differ mechanically? Can I take a file and Dremel tool to a 270 holster and make it fit my 300, or is it totally hopeless?

Interested in what you come up with. You will also need to make sure that the support does not interfere with the buttons at the bottom of the treo (or the charger port) and lets you open the lid without interference.

For what it's worth, the cradles are interchangeable. The cradle I use for my 300 is for all the other treo models, it's weighty and you can flip up the lid easily. I would start with a dremel some velcro and that puppy.

What do you mean by the "cradle" Whose part, and what part number?
