I was happy to read this news announcement!

"Handspring said it will announce Tuesday an agreement with wireless carrier Sprint. The two companies will work together to develop a new CDMA (code division multiple access) version of Handspring's Treo device that will run on Sprint's upcoming third-generation wireless network."

Looks like Sprint paid to have exclusive rights to the Treo for a period of time. The way the rest of the news story reads, it sounds like it'll be the 270, and will be 3G right from the start.
