    OK guys just for clairty...

Who among you just used the flash file from Palms site and did it that way?

Who among you did something else... of those that did something else what did you do exactly?

Reading this thread is confusing as to what method and how those methods are to be used.

Just looking for crystal clear clairty.

The update worked perfectly for me. I had some initial problems (I think in my understanding). One of which was I needed to rename the updater to the correct file extension. I think from .oprc to .prc. But that was it, really..

I had to delete everything on the device (did a backup first). I then ran the updater and it went through did what it needed and rebooted. I then restored from my laptop and I was in business.

One thing that is pretty frustrating with the backup is that for some reason the restore "looses" some things, like registration numbers and my launcherX skin.. I had to enter in all of my registration information. Though I had to do this as well when I upgraded to the latest SPRINT firmeware for the 700p..

The device IS INDEED faster than with the previous firmware. I'm not sure why the hell Palm does NOT put this out for 700p users. This is one thing that REALLY infuriates me. The device is defective with the currently released 700p firmware as far as I'm concerned..

kocoman, i am thinking perhaps if we can get the treo into bootloader mode (as we do for esn repair) and drop a file to the root of the sd card that has the 700w (i would use the w rather than the wx firmware - memory is similar) that has a name similar to VENTIMG.NBH it 'might' load.

kind of like this shows for the hermes: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...SDCardFlashing

ok, after doing some thinking i noticed that the 700wx i have and my 700p have different bootloaders. i found this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7820

which has some info on reflashing the bootloader. i think this is the most important part. what we need is to extract the bootloader from the w/wx and flash it to the p. i am not sure what commands i need to feed mtty to do this so any help would be appreciated. i think once we get this we will essentially have no issues flashing (just need to figure out the screen issues)

I updated and everything seems to be good. I am restoring now the NVBackup.

After I did a hard reset I played around in Blazer to test the lag. It was still pretty bad even with the hard reset. Once I was on the new firmware, Blazer opened much faster. They must have done something right.

so this is an interesting tidbit. here is a comparison of the 700p and 700wx "map" function under bootloader mode. they are identical:

ok, i am currently doing a 'ram2sd' backup on the 700wx. this says it is copying ceos+bootloader+storage image to sd. after that i will see if the 700p will take the rom image.

from what i am reading...this may include EVERYTHING. even the bootloader.

i will make sure to do a backup of the 700p before i flash

ok, took that backup and made a raw disk image of it. i am now backing up the 700p just to be safe. interestingly enough it gives the EXACT SAME response (including the "WINCE" part).

played around with it a little bit. i found out how to get into bootloader without an active phone.

    -remove battery
    >>>>hold volume up and record
    -replace battery

(works on both 700p and 700wx)

also, i am trying to find out how to write this image back to the phone. tried sd2ram and sd2r but no dice

ok, it seems like it will only allow me to do a sd2ram (virtual) flash and not a sd2r (actual) it takes a looong time. will see if it allows sd2r after doing sd2ram.

edit: nope, sd2ram is the REAL DEAL flash. it timed out while flashing and my 700p refused to boot. blank screen and all...dead.

    ...however...

i pulled the battery, held side button and vol up, put battery back in and:

it appeared in mtty ready to go and i am reflashing.

I need a little while to digest what you are doing, I have not run a lot of commands in the bootloader because I do not want to brick my current unit.

The SD card written by r2sd is in RAW format. do not format it, just load it with linux/mac (dd) or Winhex "Physical Disk"

In case you do brick the device (because the bootloader was overwritten), you might be able to use ruucmd.exe (from the 700wx) to recover. (There was a thread with screenshoots of this in some forum I saw) or jtag

If you know how to patch the FwAndRom.ruu file to include a 700p rom with winhex, and flash that in. (thats more time consuming)

If you have a Centro too can you extract its ROM via this method? beezlewaxin at HF has gone into the bootloader with mtty but because Canada doesn't have Centro yet I am not really looking into his work yet. I want to check if the ROM type is the same or if its similar to 650/680

I will wait until the rocket scientist on this board figure this out. I am willing to try, but feeling a bit overwhelmed.
