I upgraded my 700p this morning, but instead of restoring from the HontSync backup I restored from my BackupMan backup from last night.

After doing this I got to thinking that the BackupMan backup might replace some updated files. What got me thinking this was that the Touch Screen Calibration window looked different during the update then it did after the restore.

What do you thing? Should I redo the update and restore from the hotsync backup? Everything seems to be working fine, but I am worried a bit.

Restoring from a backup will not alter the ROM image which is what the MR patch changed (from software rev 1.08 to 1.10).

If your phone is working well and the MR installed correctly, no more flashing is needed... Enjoy!
    Have a great one...Doc D.

Thanks! Yes everything seems to working great. Very smooth upgrade for me.

smooth upgrade for me too...blazer is so much better..however i still randomly get the white screen of death.....evdo seems to be disconnecting very often...and battery life seems to be less..but that was fixed by turning the beam receive option off in the prefs menu under power options

I am not a BIG fan of versamail BUT I am using it.......

I noticed after the update, the passwords for my exchange account and gmail account did not come back with the restore...all the other settings did. I did have an error on the first restore, so maybe it was just a fluke.....

    just my 2 cents....

Okay, here goes nothing. I can't remember the last time my Treo reset (only took a year to get to this point), so I might as well put the kybosh on that. Here's the plan:

    00) Grab a beer
    0) Hotsync (I use Chapura)
    1) Backup with Resco to SD1 and remove SD1. Hard Reset 700p.
    2) Backup entire freaking SD1 to external HD
    3) Unzip 21 June ROM Update to freshly formated, blank SD2
    4) Turn the radio off as a further precaution between "scheduled" resets
    5) Plug SD2 into fully charged 700p, using AC adapter, not USB synch/charge cable
    6) Pray. Grab another beer.
    7) Restore from Resco Backup. More beer.
    8) Throw Treo at wall if this doesn't work; if it does, HotSync again.

    Will report back.

EDIT #1 - TOTAL TIME for what appears to have been a successful update from ROM before Resco Restore: 27 min. Software number changed from 1.08 to 1.10.

    Onto to resco...

EDIT #2 - Resco restore successful, except for one file, which seems to have reported some kind of sharing violation... a "trusted" BlueTooth Database, or somesuch... no idea.

EDIT #3 - Change of plans, after reset 3 minutes into testing device (exiting Blazer, and entering Agendus). I figure at least some of the "stuff" in RAM following the Update is "new"; i.e., the update doesn't just flash the ROM--rather, it replaces data in the ROM as well as the RAM. If that's correct, as I suspect, that means that a full resco restore will potentially overwrite this newer stuff, which may not be desirable. So, instead of a full resco restore, I'm going to try the following:

    1) following successful update, hard restore to get device back to a clean slate
    2) HotSync (after backing up prior directory, for safety) to restore device
    3) Do a differential comparison using Resco, to see what the hotsync missed, and restore that data, so long as there doesn't already exist a newer version of whatever data that might be already in RAM (which I'll take to mean that the ROM Update also replaced RAM components with "newer stuff" that I won't want to overwrite with "older stuff" from my Resco backup, PIMs and such, excepted, of course...).

    Will report back.

You left out a few steps:

    00.A Drink the beer
    06.A Drink the beer
    07.A Drink the beer

I'm waiting to take the plunge until after my vacation - don't want to be away from home without a phone or the tethered mode hack!

It would be alot less stressful if you just skipped the update and drank the beer.

With all the horror stories here, I almost didn't update but I'm glad I did. Totally seamless with a little common sense and updating from SD:

    1) Hotsync with Palm Desktop to save your stuff
    2) Hard reset the device to wipe it
    3) Plug in the card and let it chug for a while. I think there were 2? resets in the process
    4) When it's all said and done (30 mins?), pull the SD card with the update
    5) Hotsync and get all your stuff back.

I didn't have to re-provision or anything. Not only were all my settings preserved, I even got a voicemail notice during the update! That made my heart stop but it worked fine.

As for the update itself, it's great. This 700 was never slow, but the Ptunes lag is very much improved. I've been doing all sorts of obscene things with ptunes running, like pulling mail, playing games, panning the satellite view in Google Maps(!), running a PC remotely with PalmVNC(!) and taking pictures with nary a skip. Damm, nice.

The new Google Maps integration is hot too. If you haven't tried, you can both jump to the map from contacts, and then pull another contact up as the destination and get directions. Very nice.

The only strange thing I noticed was an old Palm III era app I had on before didn't get restored, but it was seriously old. BT sounds perfect, but I wasn't having problems before, though it seems to connect a lot faster?

    All in all, this rocks.

weird..i don't have a google maps integration on my can i check this? i do have 1.10 though
  15. #815
Do you have the latest version of Google Maps? 1.2 is the latest. I think the version right before that also had it but I'm not sure what the version number was for it.

PTunes caused resets, post MR. Ended up re-downloading PTunes, and seems o.k. again.

Here's the steps I am taking to update my Sprint 700p:
    1. Perform a HOTSYNC
    2. Create a new FULL backup using NVBACKUP
    3. Perform a HARD RESET
    4. Install the MR Update using the SD method
    5. Perform a HOTSYNC using my EXISTING profile
    6. Perform a RESTORE using NVBACKUP from my SD card

Are there any newer files that I would be overwriting by doing steps 5 or 6? Steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 have been completed. So I guess you can say that I am waiting to hear from the wiser folks on this forum!

The list below shows an NVBACKUP of all the files after an MR update WITHOUT Hotsync or a NVBACKUP restore. Basically, a vanilla Sprint 700p after the SD card MR update has occurred.

Which of the files in the list below should I NOT overwrite using HOTSYNC or NVBACKUP Selective Restore?
