I used to have an unlocked(originally with Rogers) Treo 650 that I was using with a Fido sim card. I just upgraded to an unlocked Treo 680 that I bought at a Palm Store in New Jersey. I am now home in Canada using my Fido sim card in the factory unlocked Treo 680. I of course get the Roming indicator all the time but no problems making calls or sending sms messages. The only major problem I am having now is that NONE of my caller specific ring tones will work because the Treo 680 now has a ringtone setting for incoming Roaming calls and hte 650 did not. Now since I am always roaming I no long can have different ringtones for different people. I tried using both Ringo and mRinger with a home made silent ring tone set as my Roaming ringtone but nothing. I loved having different ringers for different people.

Any tips or tricks I can use to fix this problem and maybe trick my Treo 680 into using the different ringtones for different people and not just play the default Roaming ringtone?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Try "Minitones" freeware to trim and indicate which mp3s you want to use for a ringtone.

But even if you don't want to use Mini Tones you can easily set up your default roaming ring tone and/or individual rigtones for your specific contacts.

To set up the ringtone for th entire roaming group the easiest way is to go to Preferences then to sounds then select the system category I beleive to get to the page where you see "roaming" rongtone. Then use the drop down list available to select your ringtone.

Just select your contact and go to "edit" the screen that comes up will have an area to select a ringtone for that contact by selecting from a drop down list. this drop down list is linke dto the "sounds" file in your System category (unless like me you've moved the sounds file to a different category.)

Anyway select your ringtone from the list and voila! Individualized ringtones!

Mini tones is great beacuae you can trimjust parts of the mP3 ao that you don't have to use up a lot of internal memory for parking of a ringtone. Yes the ringtones are stored on the internal memory.

If you go to "Sounds" and click on "new" you will be automatically taken to voice memo and can record a ringtone or your own voice!

I have used that for one of my persoanlized categories set up in contacts as "shytlist" ( which indicates people who still owe me money for services or who treated me poorly) I recorded a "warning" so that I can easily know to let that call go directly to Voicemail! But you can also record your favorite noise or song this way too - sound quality will not be as good as if you did it via Mini tones.

    Hope this helps!
This PRE is MINE all MINE! But if you ask nice I might let you hold it!
