According to the specs of the 680 on the box I have (and on Palm's website) the Treo 680 from Cingular is a GSM Quad band

    GSM/GPRS/EDGE-class 10 radio

    Quad band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)

how come in the preferences folder under networks the only one listed is GPRS?

Has singular turned off access to these other signals because I turned off my Data plan due to poor reception?

and would this message I am getting on the sim services folder have anything to do with just having GPRS as a network?:

    SIM Services Unavailable

Unable to retreive the SIM services menu.
Either there are no SIM services provided by your mobile operator, or there was an error when talking to your SIM.

I really am determined to get this device working properly.

Your device is fine. Cingular locked Treos are unable to access the band menu. When you go to network you see GPRS because that's the network your phone uses to access the internet.

As far as SIM services, that feature has never worked for any of my phones on my 64k Cingular SIM card
