I have a Verizon 700P that has been pretty much trouble free until this past week. I use the Seido Innodock cradle and the Seido extended battery. When I place the phone on the cradle the red light comes on like it is charging. The next morning the light is still red and when I pull the phone off of the cradle I get the message that I need to shut off the phone immediately. The battery is completely discharged. When I do a soft reset it still won't charge and I have to switch to a backup battery. Does anyone have an idea what the heck is going on?

Try pressing the reset button while the treo is plugged into a charger. This is supposed to reset the charging circuitry on the battery.

Another cause could be that the charger is not supplying enough power to charge the battery. I have seen this when using a USB charger on a USB hub. The charging light comes on, but the battery goes down.
