Gizmodo reports a guy knows a guy who says some high up Palm guy says software tweaking on the 650 can make it do EVDO. The same guy says some other interesting stuff as well, including faster speeds coming soon:

"My boss just got off the phone with an undisclosed source (Well, it was disclosed to us, but I'm not disclosing him to you). He works pretty high up for palm and gave us some news on upcoming developments.

EVDO is a software solution, not a hardware solution. That means that with some hacking, it is possible to make the Treo 650 do EVDO.
EVDO is currently 500-800k down. In Q4 it will become 1.2-4.5Mbit down - about DSL speeds (EVDO evolution A)

Q1 2007 will see the release of WiMax. 802.11b speeds over cellular towers. Thats 11Mbit.
He could not confirm a release date for the 700p, but he said if you're looking at buying a new phone, "wait a little bit.""

Any of our resident hackers care to comment on getting EVDO on the 650?

Not gonna happen The Forum That Asks, "Are You Not Entertained?"

Remember: "Anyone that thinks the Treo should just work right out of the box, shouldn't own a Treo..."
