is this truly better than the "factory" version 1.15?
    What are the benefits?

Should I wait for newer update than 1.17??

    ALSO, is it backwards compatible - can I re-install older v 1.15 if I want after I install 1.17?

I have found ver 1.17 to have much better memory handling. A definite improvement overall to the stability of my Treo.

Don't know if you can revert to 1.15 ..

For most people, 1.17 provides: Less freezing, better volume, Short DTMF tones, slightly faster response.
For some people as with any SW/FW upgrade, it may expose some issues on your phone and make it worse (resets due to hardware/memory, etc.).
    Had 1.04, loved it.
    Upgraded to 1.15, hated it.

ok well i did the update - no good for me - treo kept reseting on several occasions and the headset volume went down with my HBH-660.

    I went back to 1.15.

Any ideas when a new gsm for Cingular will come out?

The install instructions advise that you should un pair and re-pair all BT headsets after the update. If you don't problems like you have described are common.
