And here's what she actually said.
Liz Claman (Fox Business): "I want to get to smart phones. Where is the HP smartphone? You guys bought, this is before you were CEO, Palm, which has been just a, not a supportive company when it comes to er, smartphones, but have you guys had something up your sleeve? Are we going to see an HP smartphone that'll grab the attention here?"
Meg Whitman: "So we are working on this - in the end I would love to be able to provide all the way from the most fabulous work stations, by the way we just took over the number one position in workstations from Apple, to desktops, to laptops, to our tablets and convertables all the way to smartphone. But we did take a detour into smartphone and we've got to get it right this time and so my, um, mantra to the team is 'better right, than the faster we should be there'. So we're working to make sure when we do this, it will be the right thing for Hewlett-Packard and we will be successful"
Liz Claman (Fox Business): "So a smartphone is not if but when for Hewlett Packard?"
Meg Whitman: "My view is that we have to ultimately offer a smartphone, because in many countries of the world, that is your first computing device! You know, there will be countries round the world where people may never own a tablet or a PC or a desktop, they will do everything on a smartphone - we're a computing company, we have to take advantage of that, er, form factor"
