Very true. Calling conservatives "fascists" simply shows that liberals don't truly understand the word. Let's examine Webster's definition:
a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
This definition applies more to the Left in America today than the right.
...exalts nation and often race above the individual
Currently, people are being told they have to "sacrifice" and transfer their wealth to those who didn't earn it. People are placed into voting groups (women, elderly, Hispanic, African-American, etc..) and defined as such and promised taxpayer funded efforts (taken from the evil rich) to pander to each group.
stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader
The federal government has assumed far more powers than intended by the Constitution. The 10th Amendment has been largely ignored. Barney Frank dictates lending rules to banks and mortgage companies, the current administration took over 2 automobile manufacturers and fired a CEO, and now they want to control health care. Oh, and let's not forget Maxine Waters (D) saying that she'd like to take over oil companies, as well.
severe economic and social regimentation
The current administration wants to control salaries for the CEOs of private companies. Once the precedent has been established, such actions are likely to spread. And the class warfare rhetoric ("returning wealth to it's rightful owners") is simply the administration attempting to define the social and economic structure of America.
Just count how many times leftists in Congress talk about limiting corporate profits and demonize businesses that make "too much" money. Such controls are fascists in nature...plain and simple.
Honestly, the political Right just doesn't come close to fascist ideals. Decentralized federal government, letting business run business, lower taxes, people identifying themselves by ideology rather than the color of their skin or their heritage...that's typical of Conservatism.
If people want to throw labels around, that can be hard to stop. But if you must, let's make sure we've properly defined and applied the term.
