Sprint Nextel was set to launch a service Monday that would deliver full-length films to cell phones, the Reuters news service has reported.

The service will offer television shows and movies for $6.95 a month in addition to regular voice and data charges, Reuters reported. Initial films will include older releases, Reuters said.

"This is what we could get rights to quickly," Reuters quoted Dale Knoop, Sprint's general manager for multimedia services, as saying. He said that Sprint and the vendor providing the underlying technology for the service, MSpot, are negotiating for more films. The service will enable subscribers to watch the movies in segments inasmuch as the company acknowledged that phone users have exhibited a limited attention span for such mobile entertainment.
