Hey
Thanks for the response. So you're right petro canada says web browsing and not data, do you think it'll be a lot of work to tinker with it?
Otherwise do you think it'll work on anything else besides bell or Rogers? they're expensive, I was hoping to to mobilicity but I heard nothing really works with them, so what about FIDO? i'm looking for cheaper options, but keeping my palm.
Is there a way to get my palm pre data/profile/address book and export it into a motorola android for now as I wait for the next pre to come out?
thanks again!
Telus will work. Fido is Rogers.
Easiest way is to move all your contacts to Google. That way you can sync it to most smartphones on the market. I moved my stuff from a Symbian hooked on to Google Sync.

ok, so you mean it'll work on telus and fido since fido is on the same network as rogers?
thanks

Anything that says 2100, 850 and 1900 will work.

Awesome!
So according to petro canada's website it says"To use your Petro-Canada Mobility SIM card, you will need an unlocked GSM (850/1900 Mhz) handset."
in the FAQ it deals with the web browsing issue with this
"I have a new Petro-Canada SIM card, and have added the Unlimited Browsing but it still doesn't work.
It is possible that your handset does not detect the correct settings to access our browser. Also, there are some handsets that do not work with our browser. Refer to the settings for the APN:

Dunno if the veer falls under on of the phones that don't work. I have the PC pay as you go sim right now, just don't have the veer yet, but wanted to see if it worked before buying online!!!! but having a veer on Petro mobility would be a sweet deal...

im about to use the veer in canada as well. im adding to the rant as well.. right now there is no affordable data / voice mobile service that is compatible with the veer. unless you sign on a contract and swap the phone or you are fortunate enough to grandfather a loyalty plan.
petro canada has pretty good deal.. but i am unsure if you can unlock the data on a webos phone. my humble understanding is that the data only works via http. however some users have reported that they were able to work around that by routing all web traffic via http or a proxy -- which enables everything except pop3 mail. you can search for the iphone/android instructions online.. but im not sure if anyone has attempted to do the same on webos.
btw, is the cheapest unlock option with digitalunlock with their $5 off coupon? it is pretty steep.. but i will soon get a veer and it will require unlocking.

So my plan right now is to buy an unlocked veer and try it on petro mobility, if it doesn't work I guess I'll try fido. Worse comes to worse I think I'll stick with bell which I think is still slightly better than rogers. Their reps do try to work with you with the bad billing. Those seem to be the best options. It won't work on wind, mobilicity at all.
I have a friend who works at roger's tech support, I'll see if they have any ideas.

or maybe yoiu can also try kodoo, they have basic plans for $25, $12 for VM etc and $5 for 5 mb. So that's $47 as opposed to PM's all you can use plan for $45.
