I decided to pry open my defective Touchpad to attempt to checkout the battery. There are actually EIGHT clips that hold the case together, 4 along the side, and 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom end. When the case is opened, you can measure the battery voltage with a digital voltmeter (DVM) without removing the battery and without removing any circuit boards. If you look closely at the top of the main circuit board, near the battery connection area which is underneath, you will see in small white letters V BATT, and under them, a small tiny dot that is actually the battery test point to see the battery voltage. Connect your DVM from any ground point to the dot marked V BATT and you will see the actual battery voltage. Make sure your USB charger is NOT connected while doing this. The healthy battery should read at least 3.7 volts, possibly higher after a recent charge cycle. I'm not sure how low the battery voltage can go before the Touchpad becomes inoperable.
