I have just noticed that all the mail in the native e-mail app that I delete (swiping or using the trashcan icon) is sent to my Gmail's TRASH folder instead of ALL MAIL to be archived. This means that after 30 days these messages are lost forever instead of being archived.

Is there a way to make the DELETE function archive the messages instead? This is how it works on my iPhone.

I just set the 'All Mail' folder as the trash for the google account under 'Preferences and Accounts' in the email app. Seems to work ok. I suppose it means you can no longer actually delete things but since I never do this doesn't matter for me.

Alternatively you can always just move the mail to the 'All Mail' folder instead of hitting delete.
