Ok I finally figured out a way to tether my nexus s 4g to the TP using 4G.
Since the TP doesn't pick up adhoc this was a pain but anyways..
You need android-wifi-tether beta which you can get here
if you're on CM7 you should be ok but if not you'll need Peter Alfonso
patch from the ROM manager app.
In wifi tether app change device-profile to Samsung Galaxy S and change Setup-Method to Netd (master)
