The Big Picture : HP Touchpad will be a success.

Once the massive advertisement campaign starts, these reviews will look silly. The market will be capitalized like HP wants it to be and the Touchpad will be a success. I think people are missing the big picture here, 99% of the world doesn't read Engadget and many will buy the Touchpad simply due to marketing, which HP is hiding right now and is about to blanket all the airwaves.
Just imagine a teenage hipster girl sitting at home watching television (hipsters watching television? anyway...) and she sees the Russel Brand Touchpad commercial...BOOM she wants one.

And Android Honeycomb was less prepared at launch. With the ecosystem HP is building for WebOS the app selection will explode.

still lacks video out though, and I'm still not buying.

When compared with the toshiba tablet thats coming out that has FUll HDMI, Full USB ports, Full SD card slot, its laughable that HP only included a miniusb port on this tablet. And more than anything else that killed it for me.

Where, all I have read is that there is NO video out capabilities. Nowhere have I read a peep about microusb to hdmi.

From what I have heard from an insider, the HDMI adapter is coming but no word on release date....it's similar to how the iPad does HDMI with an adapter from its USB port.

You would hope that HDMI adapter would be months away from now.

Chances are that the TouchPad would get Netflix much sooner if there is NO HDMI output --- because the studios want to lock that down.

Netflix will come. If HP sells even one million Touchpads Netflix would be silly to not want to launch an application. Especially because of the turn around for converting apps to be compatible with WebOS (I've heard it is incredible simple...but I don't know, I'm not a scientist).

Also, it sounds crazy to defend, but the single USB port is ok in my book. I laughed when I read first read that the iPad only had its thirty two pin thingy (with a crap load of dongles) but, realistically they were thinking about the future. The idea of the single USB port is, in a way, previewing the cloud that we are hearing so much about these days. Eventually the Touchpad is planning on being its own, self contained, seamless eco system which requires no cables. Optimism? Yes.

But, back when Super Nintendo reigned don't you think the idea of the Wii would have sounded far-fetched?
How about streaming videos to our TVs rather than putting in DVDs?
All-in-all, it is removing redundancies in our technological evolution. Just an opinion of course. Quote me and yell, but you are all online and cannot hurt me...so there.

There is no easy port for Netflix --- all the codes that are important are in the DRM and that's native c codes, not HTML5 stuff.

If you knew about webOS and PDK you'd know that it uses C and C++ natively for PDK apps.

Go troll somewhere else or at least get your facts straight.

I know about the PDK. I was commenting that he was thinking about HTML5 portability with respect to that part of the app porting.

Not really, if you look at stuff like crazy birds or any of the other PDK apps these have all been really easy to convert over because PDK works in almost the same way that apple's SDK works, not that it is copied, but they use the same underlining technologies(C/C++ and openGL).

The way the webOS SDK is designed its made to be easy, just ask any of the webOS dev's we have currently today, they'll tell you it is fairly simple to port their apps.

If you want ease of porting, you might as well go for the Playbook because it is actually running on a POSIX-certified OS --- that is THE industry standard.

What's lol is that RIM (the email specialist) launched a tablet with a sucky email experience and Palm (the "web" specialist) launched a tablet with a sucky javascript experience.
