Were they really planning on issuing firmware updates for the TS in the wild though? Or was it a one and done thing?

I never heard of any plans to update devices in the field. The engineer who did the firmware had a fairly nice tool that was close to ready for prime time (i.e. our marketing people could even use it!), but it basically got tossed into the bit bucket when he got laid off.....
