    Try running 'top' from a terminal and look for the top processes. Those are the ones that are using the CPU the most at that instant. Look at the TIME+ column to determine what's using CPU the most. On my TouchPad sensord and powerd are constantly on top, and sensord uses the most CPU time.

    (Oh wait, just saw this has been mentioned above.)

    Yeah top doesn't necessarily tell you what's sucking up the load average, which in and of itself is not necessarily an indicator. But I think my battery problem may have been my new exchange account absorbing thousands of contacts. Probably took the phone two weeks to process them all.
