Im guessing the capital G on top of the screen of the treo stands for GSM and its been there since I got the treo. All of a sudden the G turned into a U does anyone know why? Other Att friends still have a "G" info on this would be appreciated.

The G stands for GPRS. That is the data connection type. The U stands for UMTS, which is a higher speed data connection. If you were to update to WM6 you would see 3G instead of the U. The only explanation I can think of why your friend's only says G still is they may have their phone set to only use GPRS.
