My spouse and I will be in Australia for 3 weeks: Melbourne, Ayers Rock, Cairns, Brisbane and/or Sydney

We want to get 2 sims, mostly for keeping tabs on each other, but also for getting around. GPRS would be nice.

Anyone have ideas on what is the best deal?

It took me long enough to figure out the US options!!

    Thanks in advance.

Do a search here for either Vodafone, Telstra or Optus. I believe that all have pre-paid accounts.

However, get ready for the pricing for GPRS. It is a lot more expensive than the US.

I am presuming you have an unlocked GSM Treo.

    Go with Vodafone.
They are the cheapest carrier (bar 3 - but they wont let you do what you want to) and charge by the second (1c per second + 20c flag-fall). Also you could buy a Cap if you wanted (pay $49 and get $230 of credit).

    Have a look here http://www.vodafone.com.au

Telstra have the best coverage but charge the earth and a tiny bit of the moon. http://telstra.com
