    Hey all,

The Treo 650 is now showing on the Orange UK website, under the "coming soon" section.

    See below:

    http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/h...reo_650/detail

Wonder how much it will be to upgrade from the Orange Treo 600.

    oh!

I looked at the most recent posts and didn't find anything, so I guessed no-one had noticed it...

hmm, maybe the moderators should delete this topic then. Sorry for my mistake

Well it was quite a long time ago so I'm not surprised you missed it. Orange's use of the word 'soon' is quite unusual

An orange shop 'trainer' pointed out that in the printed April brochure the 650 appeared as "new" rather than "coming soon" - implying a state of affairs that obviously hasn't gone to plan!

I went to Bluewater last night and spoke to the ops manager in the orange shop he said the Treo would be out the wk of 9th May, prices not released yet. Hope he is right this time.

Doesn't look the most authoratitive source but PalmAddict are indicating Weds 27th as Treo Day in the UK...

Unfortunately I'm away on business and can't easily check the 'indicators' tomorrow...

    INdicators As of 26 April...
    * www.Palmone.com/uk still in denial re existence of 650
    * www.Palmone.co.uk directing us to an American treo650 page!!!!
    * www.orange.co.uk still showing coming soon...
    * orange catalogue shows it as "New" (not coming soon!)

I just spoke to a friend of a friend who works for Orange, She was pretty confident about availability in 2 weeks, so that would agree with the rumours about week starting 9th May.

According to this article on the register - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/04...e_treo_650_uk/ - Palm and Orange officially launched the Treo 650 in the UK today.

Sammy from Palmaddicts website...a great palm resource site by the way...was at the UK Orange launch of the 650 today in London. I am going to dump my V3 for the 650 and keep my Tungsten T5 as I can't imagine doing without the big screen / landscape view. I use it mostly now for work stuff and it looks far more professional in meetings that the treo's phone looks so it's definately staying. What I've missed most about the treo is web access which is useless on the V3. I can get email easy enough on the T5 but just can't live without mobile web access...back to treo country for me again !!

And here we have the whole PalmOne / Orange / Treo650 in the UK marketing f#@k-up summed up!

Official launch by PalmOne UK (notable by it's minor little mention of Orange), maybe someone should have told the UK webmaster...
    www.palmone.com/uk

www.Orange.co.uk still shows it still coming soon...

www.palmone.co.uk still points to a US page...

I am completely underwhelmed by this non-event of an alleged 'launch' which I suspect is a desperate gimmick to stop those fed-up with waiting for the 650 deserting to Symbian & MS phones!

A friend recently asked Orange to unlock their 600. They said they would unlock it for a small fee 20 (I think), once they were outside of the initial 1 year contract. I don't know if they would let you pay the first year line rental up front.

sorry - i dont quite understand - are you saying if its on a new contract they would unlock it? otherwise whats everyones thoughts on a patch coming out (like there was on the 600) - which is what I used... If u say u need the phone abroad I cant imagine them having a major issue with it - u think?

Orange said that they would only unlock it once the initial year's contract was up. (i.e. after they had had the phone for a year on a contract). My suggestion was that perhaps they should have offered to pay the first year up front, but this was an after thought, so I don't know what Orange's responce would be.
