I concur on the home screen- very poor show. Not too bothered on the Orange logo.

I notice on the Orange fact sheet it details the included accessories. There's no mention of a slip case. Does anybody know if one is included, or if the treo 600 case is compatible?

But I would assume that you can change the homepage as it's a palm powered device, isnt this the case?

I havent had a palm for a couple of years now, and am very keen to get back into it. I was sure that stuff like that was customisable.

    cheers

PS. Any more news on availability via orange?

I'd say so, what I'm interested in is how I can get the orange home screen, it does look interesting..

It's not clear to me which button you would need to push to get the screen shown in the pic I posted above. If it's the 'home' button (the one with the house on it!) then on the 600 at least that isn't customisable in Preferences>Buttons. It can be taken over by other apps though - third party launchers typically do this - so it should be possible to avoid that screen one way or another. If the Orange screen is mapped to the 'phone' button then this can be customised in Prefs>Buttons. In an ideal world you'd be able to remap to the standard phone app, but it might be that the nasty Orange screen is what you get when you do that! Even then I would be surprised if some enterprising soul doesn't produce a fix pretty quick (if there isn't one already), but it think it's a matter of wait and see.

On the basis that it is likely to be available before the unlocked version and that a couple of sources indicate a date of 17 March for that, I predict that it will be available for order from Orange UK one week today (i.e. on Monday 14 March). Of course, my predictions are usually cr*p

If I buy an Orange 650, you can have mine!

EDIT: I mean the home screen not the device!

I went into an Orange shop today in Moorgate and they said "not long but it has been delayed due to software problems". Though i dont consider the shops to be a very reliable source of info as they are not really told anything... This is so a person walks in and buys something they have not wait for a phone thats not out yet.

The description on the Expansys site makes no mention of a case either:

    'In the box:
    Treo 650 smartphone
    Lithium-ion battery
    AC charger
    USB HotSync® cable
    Headset
    Software Installation CD
    User guide'

My understanding is that the 650 and 600 are of almost identical size and shape so it's likely that the 600 case would fit the 650. You might get a more definitive answer though (like from someone who actually has both devices!) if you were to ask in the 'Accessories' forum.

    Mark,
According to the orange branded data sheet you found there is no case. Must admit i've bought a silicon case (& screen protector) in the hope that they will eventually release it!

I called orange directly yesterday, they claimed that their system said it would be available Feb - duh! So they had no real idea.

Fingers crossed it will be soon!

Take a look at this page.

    http://mpr.mobiles.co.uk/orange-hand...-treo-650.html

If you are a new customer, the Treo 650 on a £30 a month tarrif is only £49!!!

    Fantastic news!

Great offer for the Treo 650!

Now has anyone dealt before with this company (Mobile Online)?

I was just about to jump and get one through them but then I had second thoughts...

    Anyone has references??

    Tks!

I think we need to find out whether they are an official authorised dealer. Must admit that they are very fast at responding to emails!

They claim "Mobiles Online are an official Orange Approved Direct Dealer" so that should be fine. I assume withOrange, once connected you use their customer service, not the suppliers?
    Does anyone know?
  14. #154
Hi all, the mobile online offer looks great!!!. But you kind of wonder how they can have such a low price? How is the support (and I am not talking about the contractual conditions but the actual service is something goes wrong). Anybody got any experience from Mobile Online – please com forwards and reveal yourself…. Your plan 200 400 min any network anytime sounds like the most interesting offer?

But there is also another dealer (http://www.phones2udirect.co.uk/Prod...g_Treo_650.asp) with a similar offer. And after conversations today over the phone with a sales rep. they claim that the 650 will be offered Monday next week.

So the question is where do you get the best value? And to make things more interesting: we haven’t seen the offer from Orange? According to orange the release date should be early next week (I can not vouch for that date, it was a conversation with the sales rep in Oxford circus).

Please keep adding postings on the subject. I am more than willing to share any info about the best option available…

    /Claudio

    Claudio,

The Phones2udirect offer doesnt show the price for the phone at all. It's just showing the tarrif prices.

    Good price!

I phoned them and it's not yet available: 'Hopefully in the next couple of weeks'.

I've also read the small print, and they state the following:

Pre-orders: We often advertise products in advance of them being available to purchase. Please note that all prices, deals and offers for pre-order or "coming soon" products are shown as a guide only. The actual agreed price and offer will be that in force on the day of despatch. You may cancel a pre-order at any time prior to despatch.

So maybe they've just made up a price to get pre-orders.

    Watch this space.

Does anyone know the implications of buying from these people in respect to choosing an orange tariff offer? I was planning on buying direct from Orange as they have 2 things i want to take advantage of:

    1) if a friend refers you, you get £50 off your bill and the friend gets £25.
    2) If you can get hold of an NUS Student number you can get their student deals:
Just choose a Service Plan from £15 a month and we'll give you:
1000 extra free text messages a month
50% off calls to UK landlines once you've used up your inclusive minutes
payment holiday - pause your monthly payments for up to 12 months - if you decide to work or study abroad
    http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/student/paymonthly

The one I was looking at was 300 mins for £30 plus 1000 texts a month with 50% of land lines. Pretty good I thought, no?

Im getting bored waiting for this phone. The rest of the world has it but we dont! Its such B*LLS&*T
  19. #159
Ashleymarks - that's interesting info, thanks. As it happens, I finished as a student a year and a half ago, but my NUS card runs until 2006...!

I can't see the 300 mins plan you refer to, but as usual it seems to be confusing with two apparently identical plans at £27 and £30. Both appear to have 200 mins and 500 texts. Oh, hang on! I guess you mean the 200 mins with an extra 100 mins... silly me!

Presumably the "Exclusive Offers" mean that you have to order online from Orange?

The other consideration is data - have you thought about how many MBs a month you might need?

    Toby.

I guess as has also been pointed out, we don't yet know how much the actual phone is on Orange... it's not in phones coming soon either...
