How about buying a new cheap PAYG phone from Orange for 20
    http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/h.../pay_as_you_go

Then buy the cheapest colour pda off ebay. Then when the 650 comes out you should be able to upgrade the broken one for a new 650, sell the other phone and pda and you should not be that much out of pocket.

    Good idea.

My other thought was to get the new 600 from Orange - then leave in May - buy an unlocked 650 from expansys, get a contract on 02 (or someone with cheap GPRS) - sell the 650 on ebay.

    Thoughts?

I assume you meant "sell the 600 on ebay" ?
My only thought is how much we will all be paying for the 650 from Orange.
I'm hoping for about 100 on contract, that was what I paid for the 600 ?

why not buy a real cheapo unlocked phone off ebay - you could pick up an old banger for 30 or so which is a lot cheaper than the 100 orange are quoting...and try and hang on with it until May ?

    This might be of interest:

Doesn't specify the discount with different Voda contracts or an availability date though.

Wifi and 1,200 mAh battery - better a buy a couple or three spares. Otherwise, it looks rather nice but I wonder if they've improved five-way nav support (WM2005?).

Confused ? Why risk buying an old banger off ebay for 30 which might be faulty, when I posted a link for a brand new PAYG orange colour phone with GPRS for 19.95.

eh...good point Chas..but you could always flog the unlocked phone on ebay again after and get some of your cash back plus you wouldn't be tied to orange for a decent PASYG deal

I went into town yesterday and went into the local Orange Shop- and guess what? They have no idea when or if the Treo 650 will be released. I also went into the Carphone Warehouse (as I'm a sucker for punishment) and the sales man said that he has no idea on a release date although an Orange rep has just had his demonstration model stolen from his house so he doesn't think it will be too long!

I did a reccy today - went to O2, Carphone Warehouse and Orange. No one had heard of the 650. The sales girl in Orange then saw the page in their mag with the 650 saying coming soon. Admittedly she knew nothing but she said if its in the mag then its normally 1 month before they sell it. Carphone Warehouse said that if they didnt know about it, it could be because Orange have an exclusive on it for a a period of time before anyone else can sell it - much like the 600. So hopefully - it should be within a month. As far as price - its anyones guess - Im hoping its a tun with a contract. Should be able to sell the 600 on Ebay for that so its all good... (fingers crossed on all fronts).

I spoke to them today and they expected it by the end of February and told me to watch the website for the first details to be published.

So basically it's on the way

Makes you laugh reading some of the posts at the start of this thread :
"Orange will not be supporting the 650"
"My friend who works for Orange says November 04"
